I have an old pentium 90 PC where, because of problems, I
reformatted the hard disk. I have the original boot diskette with CD-ROM support. When I boot the boot diskette I get the following messages: "Starting MS-DOS"
followed by "CD-ROM device driver MTMCDAS Version 01.16" followed by "# Installed CD-ROM Drive : 1", then I get
"CD-ROM is not detected, driver not loaded." These messages are generated from the entry in Config.sys which
reads: "device=\mtmcdas /d:mscd001 /P:230 /i:11". I believe the problem to lie in the BIOS, but I am not to familiar with what the BIOS needs to say.

This is probably a failure of the CD. The driver has looked to the port indicated and can't find the CD.
You might try autodetect of the hard drives and see if it can pick anything up, or you could set it manually in BIOS for CD, but I don't think it will help you.
Most DOS level drivers will pick up the CD, whether it is identified in BIOS or not.
You might also remove the address modifiers of the load line in config.sys and see if it is smart enough to check all possible addresses for the CD. Ed Fair

device=\mtmcdas /d:mscd001 /P:230 /i:11".

I always thought that the D:mscd001 should be 000 ?

I am having similar troubles, but with a pcmcia card service.

good luck.

the /d:mscd001 is a driver name. You can use anything you wish (I think it is 8 characters long maximum-never have tested it) so long as the same name is used when mscdex is called. Ed Fair

Just checkout if you have mtmcdas file on your floppy, and it is ok.

Your autoxec.bat file should have and entry for mscdex.exe also

This is must if you are in dos mode of windows.

generally I use one common driver for any cdroms that we have available here ranging from 4x to 52x, all DVD rom are also supported by this driver
and it's configuration is also simple. so no hassel.

let me know if your problem got solved or not.

check autoexec.bat for this line or something simular... are you sure this message is coming from config.sys if so I would guess bad cd drive. if this line isnt in autoexec.bat EXACTLY as this (the /d:mscd001) then you will get problems like this..... you can TYPE IT IN at dos however...

mscdex.exe /d:mscd001
