I'm running win98. I have a 20GB hard drive as my primary drive. I recently added a 60GB Maxtor drive(slave). I used the Maxtor software to setup/format the drive. But my system would only read it as a 33gb drive. A few days later, my system stopped reading the drive...you can see the drive letter(in win explorer), but when trying to access it and error pops up saying that it is not connected anymore. When booting up my pc, the hard drive is still being seen (on that part of starting up, where it shows all the system drives).

Does anyone know what is wrong here and how to fix this without losing any info that was previously saved on that Maxtor drive???

Thanks,

Natalie

Does the 60GB drive show on POST screen at boot up? And what size does it show? (sounds like your mobo/bios has the 32/33GB limit - you may be able to get a bios upgrade to fix this - which may or may not solve your problem).

If you boot from a win98 boot floppy, can you see the 60GB drive from the dos prompt?

The Maxtor software - did it just partition & format drive? Did it give indication of size when you did this?
