When trying to print get an error about the MP Service not running. In Services, the MPService is set to Automatic but doesn't start automatically, so I start it manually. This problem just started a couple of weeks ago, been working fine before that. It's connected to the LPT1 port on a PC running XP. Found the Canon website unhelpful. Any thoughts?

Glad to know I am not the only one with this problem. I have also done a ton of research with no luck. Hope someone can help us before I throw this thing out the window.

I decided to remove the drivers for my C755 and may have remove at least one of them in the wrong way and now I have had to use a program called MY uninstaller and it takes out what it finds, but when I try to reinstall the C755 CD it says that the main C755 3.20 driveris still there and goes about loading everything but the one I really need and I can't find the files this setup on the Canon CD says already are on my hard drive or in the registry anyway. I would hate to go into the rgistry and just yank them out.

How do I start the MPservice applet in the control panel. How do I set it manually? Anybody have the answer? Your tips is very appreciated.
thanks,
Sonny

I don't know if this helps, but I had the same problem with my canon f60 and just recently bought a computer that had xp on it. The printer worked fine before but all of a sudden I was getting the same message you all are getting. For the most recent post about where services is located. you can find it under the control panel/ performance and maintenance/administrative tools option.

I did these two things and not sure which one helped the most but it works now.

1. mpservice was already running - but I stopped it and then restarted it again.

2. Went to the c:/program files/canon/multipass4 folder where the mpservice.exe is supposed to be located. I found the file mpservic. I right clicked on it and went to the properties panel. There was a tab for compatibility. with the following information " If you have problems with this program and it worked correctly on an earlier version select the compatibility mode that matches that earlier version". There was a pulldown list of os to choose from. I selected the correct one. and it was able to print. I have not shut down yet but hope that this is what will do the trick. For now it is working.

If nothing else it is worth a try.

This fix from the Whirlpool Forums in Australia should help:

"edit the file MPNETIPC.INI, change 127.0.0.2 in this file to 127.0.0.1, this will fix your problems. the file should be located in \windows\system32"

Now, can someone tell me the equivalent file for the Canon F50, please.

Also, M$ has issued a hotfix for loopback errors of this type. Find it at:
Thanks,
Wizdad

I talked with a tier 2 tech and they told me to use msconfig and select diagnostic start and it allowed me to remove the remaining files for the printer and reload all of the files loaded without seeing any of the ones the system originally thought were already loaded and my MP755 is up and running with the winXP files/drivers.

I have an MP50 and started having this problem after updating to SP2. Studying the logs in the Event Viewer, it looks like there is a security audit every 30 minutes. A security audit is also performed when you boot the system. When there is a security audit and the MpService is started, the MpService stops. That's all I know at this time - I don't have a fix but am looking for one.
