cannto scan from photoshop 3

hi, i'm using photoshop 5.5 from the office, i just installed an hp scanjet 5400c scanner, when i tried to scan from photoshop the import/scan option is grayed out, can somebody tell me what this means and what i should do to enable this option, i know it's not the scanner because i can scan using the scanners gui and even other graphics program i.e. irfanview and even windows imaging.

Hi,

Have you tried scanning with the regular scan program that came with the scanner and saving to Photoshop. Can you do that? If so, does it work? Has your scanner been configured to scan to Photoshop or has it been properly installed? Or is there a preferences file that will allow you to specify which graphics programs it will scan to? Have you turned the scanner on first then started Photoshop?

When you goto FILE|IMPORT what are the exact options. Does it just say scanner or does it name the scanner or name the scanner driver?

Look into those things I mentioned and see if any of it helps, or gets things working. You might just have to use the native scanner program and save to Photoshop to start things rolling before Photoshop can do it on it's own (maybe).

Post back with your results.

I notice that something similar with my scanner. If I install it after I install photoshop, photoshop has a hard time finding the software to scan. Mostly how i fix this is by reinstalling photoshop.

I use photoshop 6 and when I goto File/Import it doesn't list the name of the scanner it only has, I think "twaine", this brings up my scanner. Does yours list this??? if not you should try like CaulX said install scanner first then photoshop. I hope you get this worked out.
