Cannot view area

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Today my SharePoint 2003 site stopped working. When I access the site now, I am prompted for authentication and then get the following error:

You cannot view this area, either because the area no longer exists, or because you do not have the rights to view this area. To change your rights, contact the site administrator.

Any ideas what might have caused this? I am the administrator of the machine and domain. So I have all the rights.

One thing I should add. I was looking at the IIS Directory security settings. I was trying to remove the domain portion of the login. Which I did. But I may have reset permissions on a subfolder in IIS to something they shouldn't be.

Does anyone happen to know what the permissions should be? Right now I have anonymous access (with a user specified), and Integrated Windows authentication. This was applied to all of the areas under "Default Web Site".

Think I resolved this. There was an issue with the default config account. The password had been changed. So once I went through the process of reseting the password in SharePoint, everything seemed fine.
