Is there way to varyonvg if the error tells me that "there is no good copies of descriptor area". The volume group resides in a PV that is hdisk2 and it is define, i cfgmgr it but it only created hdisk3.....i commanded mkdev -l hdisk2 but it can't make the disk available...is there a way to access the data or the vgda of the volume group????? or we need to restore the backup for the said volume group???

Hi,

Normally you can not varyonvg when the volume is "defined".

Possibly it's dead electronically,also check cables/terminations.
Check "errpt|grep -E "hdisk2|scsi" - look for errors.

Try "dd if=/dev/hdisk2 bs=1024 count=1" to see if you can acccess the disk directly - however I think it will fail.

Sounds to me like you'll need a good backup copy. "Long live king Moshiach !"
