cannot upgrade IE on Win 2K

I went through the the KB here and saw a post that I thought would resolve my issue, but alas, it was not as helpful as I hoped. I'm running Win2k SP2 with IE 5.0. I need to upgrade and apparently whoever installed Win2k on this machine did apoor job. It wants to ask me for the Win2k CD everytime I boot up. Anyhow... It will not extract the needed files to install IE 5.5 or 6.0, then it will cancel the files and tells me where the install files are in the c:\winnt\ folder. SO, if ihave given enough info, let me know if you have any possible solitions.

FYI: I used the MSKB article that the previous post was linked to, and that was no help as well.
