Performing a backup and then trying to partition my HD I get a unable to unmount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s7 and
/export/home busy. Plus I get the same for / How can I get around this or ? on a Ultrasparc1 running Solaris 6

You won't be able to unmount / because the OS is running in that partitian.
/export/home is mounted (for your home directory)

you don't need to unmount filesystems to backup and if you need to repartitian the disk
you should boot from CD so that you can repartitian the whole disk.

Mike thanks but: When booting from the CDROM I get as far as "partitioning disks" and then the upgrade halts with a error stating " cannot unmount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s7 so there is no OS running and /export/home I get the same message. This is after doing a "init 0" and then booting from the cdrom.

You say you are doing an upgrade. If you have backed up any files you need to keep,
you might look at doing a fresh install instead of an upgrade.

We'll see. I am unsure if all data is backing up since I get an error during the backup. I was thinking about that though. Thank you for your assistance.
