Cannot uninstall the SP6a...help

Hi

I tried to uninstall by running "c:\winnt\$ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe". After it rebooted, it still indicated sp6a using command prompt "winver". I reinstalled and uninstalled (using the add/remove in the control panel) the sp6a to no avail. There is no sp6a in the control panel "add/remove", but sp6a is still exist. I want to go back to my previous service pack which is sp4.

How do I remove the sp6a from the server?

Why do you need to remove it? Try uninstalling it again, and then reinstall SP 5. That should fix it for you. But why would you want to roll back 6a? i don't recommend it. In any case, that should get you through it.

Hi SteelDragon,

We're having problem with the Oracle Database. I tried installing the sp5 but Windows prevents you from installing sp5 because it recognizes that it has sp6. I tried installing sp6 and tried uninstalling using both add/remove and spunist.exe.

Have you tried deleteing the Registry keys for SP 6a and SP 6 after uninstalling them? If not give that a shot and then attempt to re-install service pack 5. I would also call Oracle, as I beleive they have a fix to that issue out already. There are too many installed 6a NT machines for them to not help you.

Thanks for your advice (regarding the registry), but I don't want risk any damage to our production server. It's critical that this server must be up & running every day.

In Oracle's perceptive, they recommend any sp but there is less problem voice by general public with sp5 (40 bit).
