I have a little remote office that is connected to my main through phone switch via a dedicated line. I've just been informed that no one at the office can transfer calls except for the receptionist. I didn't know that you could take away the right to transfer. I am using an S8700.

Thanks in advance.

What kind of dedicated line connects the two sites? Is is just an extension number, or are they translated as trunks?

I don't know that I know that answer to that question. I've inherited the phone system at the company that I work for and am still learning the ins and outs. Does the answer to your question directly affect the transferring of calls? Is there any easy way of finding out from Site Administration?

Thanks for the reply.

TwystedPair...

Can you do a li trunk on the s8700, and see if you see anything that describes the connection or tie line to that site?

Are the individuals at the remote site unable to transfer calls between each other, or are they only unable to transfer calls to the main site?

Thanks for the response. I'm a bit embarrassed, but I'm glad I decided to post it here. When I took over the telecom system for the company, I wasn't left with much (anything at all) along the lines of documentation. I am fixing that situation almost daily, but a lot slower than I would like because of my other responsibilities. I did a li trunk command and there isn't anything that would be a direct line to that site, so I misspoke in my initial post. They're phones are, however, managed from my phone system. I do realize now that I'm walking through this that the phones at the site are VOIP. Does that help any???

Susan,

Thanks for the response. I do not know about transferring calls to the main site, but I will check on that. The problem that they reported was not being able to transfer within the office, except for the receptionist. The new Office Manager told me that the previous telecom admin told them that she would come back to turn on transferring for everyone else but never did.

Within Avaya Site Administrator, open "Start Emulation" (under the Advanced tab). Use the command list trace stat 1234 where "1234" is an extension at your remote site. Then call that remote extension and ask them to try and transfer your call to another extension within the remote site. You'll be able to see the error message that is returned when the transfer does not go through.

Just thought about this:
1. How many call appearences do you have on the remote site stations? (normal is 3).

2. On page 2 of the station screen, what is the setting for "Restrict Last Appearance"?

Now we're getting somewhere... Transferring does work between stations in the office. What doesn't work is when someone picks up a call at the front desk from their phone (brdg-appr) and then tries to transfer that call to another station in the office.. Here is the output of the trace when we try that..

10:07:19 Calling party station 3250 cid 0x2996
10:07:19 Calling Number & Name 3250 Atkins, Matt

10:07:40 conf/tran hold station 3773 cid 0x2996
10:07:53 unhold station 3773 cid 0x2996
10:08:04 idle station 3250 cid 0x2996

Check the "Auto Select Any Idle Appearance?" setting on the stations and make sure it is set to "Y".
