Cannot synchronise emails

I get the following error when attempting to synchronise for the first time on a new installation.

The mail file specified by the current location document cannot be opened on the server. Email synchronization cannot continue.

This is listed on BlackBerry.com as no.3 in a top 10 FAQs, but amazingly they still don't seem to be able to help.

Any help would be much appreciated.

BES version - 2.2.1.10
Desktop software version - 3.6
BlackBerry handheld S/W version - 3.6.0.38
Notes server version - 6.0.1
Notes Client version - 5.0.12

There is an e-mail message that the BB setup procedure places in your e-mail Inbox and is required for syncronization. The subject of the e-mail begins with "RIM_". That e-mail's message is:

"This message is used to carry data between the BlackBerry Redirector and BlackBerry Handheld. Please do not delete, move or respond to this message - it will be processed by the BlackBerry Redirector."

That's the best guess I have at your problem.
