I'm trying to mount an external tenx optical drive to a SCO server. I would like to make a node with the mknod command, but first need the parameters. I type in the command 'divvy /dev/rdisk/ls0' and the system returns

cannot stat "/dev/rdisk/ls0"
stat: no such file or directory

What has gone wrong and what do I do to fix it?

Provided your actual version of OSR has a driver for this optical drive you may have to play with mkdev hd.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Mknod isn't going to help you if the driver for your device isn't in the kernel. In the case of a scsi device, that means an entry in /etc/conf/cf.d/mscsi

As PHV said, you start with mkdev hd. If your OS is 5.0.6 or better, "sconf -v" is safe to examine the scsi bus which can help immensely. One thing to keep in mind if this is scsi: until sconf can see it, nothing else ever will, so don't waste time.
