Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook

Every couple of days the following error comes up for all users until the exchange server is restarted.

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set of folders coult not be opened. The server is not available. contact your administrator if this condition persists"

It's a Windows Server 2003 running Exchange 2003. When the error is occuring I do not see any service that arent' running and nothing appears to be out of place. Resetting clears up the problem and everything works fine for a couple of days but then the error message is back.

Any thoughts?

You should check in Exchange System manager to see if the Private and Public stores are running. The Services can be running while the stores themselves are down.

Make sure you are not running out of disk space or that your infostores are not approching the 16GB limit for E2K3 or 18GB for E2K3 with SP2.

With SP2 you can increase the max database size up to 75GB by editing the registry.

I am at 18gb, how do i expand the capacity through the registry?

Open regedit and navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\SERVER_NAME\Private-STORE_GUID.

To change the Public store limit, navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\SERVER_NAME\Public-STORE_GUID.

Create a new REG_DWORD value in the registry key for the correct GUID. Name it ?Database Size Limit in Gb? and set the value from 1 to 75.

Assuming you are newly setting the ?Database Size Limit in Gb? value, it will be detected at the next size check. Reboot the Information Store service for immediate recognition.
