I have just installed the evaluation copy of CE9 in preparation for the full version. We are putting everything onto one box. During the installation there was never a point that asked me where to install files, reports, etc. I want to have our system files on the C Drive and the reports, instances, etc on a drive with much more space. How do I configure this?

Hi,
The software is difficult to place anywhere except the default locations, but the published reports, instances, , etc can be placed anywhere - you configure the Input and Output FRS locations when you create the services, so they can be on any drive..

The reports ( the actual ones you designed in CR Pro ) should NOT be located on the same server as the Crystal Enterprise is running ( if possible), but, even then, you can place them anywhere.

Look at the DOCS about where the various servers
will look or use for their functions..Almost all of them are configurable and do not depend on where the underlying software is located.

You stated,

"you configure the Input and Output FRS locations when you create the services, so they can be on any drive.."

I ran the install and the services were created automatically. Do you know, offhand, where I change the Input and Output FRS locations?

Hi,
Go into the Crystal Management Console..Manage Servers section

Stop the 2 services, and, on the Properties page set the root directory to the location of your choice..

Restart the services...

The is the same way to set all the configurable
parts of the CE servers..

PS: It is possible that the evaluation version of CE9 does not allow this, but try and see.

In the CMC under the Crystal Input File Repository Server all I can change is the

Command: "\\ServerName\C$\ProgramFiles\Crystal DecisionsEnterprise9\win32_x86\inputfileserver.exe" -service -name Input -ns ServerName -restart

I can also change the Startup Type. I see nowhere where I can change the root directory. Can you tell me what you see when you choose Properties after you stop the Crystal Input File Repository Server?

OK, OK, bear with me. You are correct. I was in the CCM. After I went to the CMC I tried to change the root to my D drive but it Errored out due to the fact that I had not already created the directory structure. I assume that after I create the directory structure I want to copy all of the contents of the original root into the new root (since I did perform an import from my Seagate Info 7 system). I assume that I would do the same thing for my Output and then restart the servers?

Bessebo...

Hi - (that is an easy mistake to make when new to CE's architecture),
Yes..Create the structure ( just copy the FRS structure to your new directory (including subdirectories) - that way both input and output will be done and the Report ID#s will reference the correct place)

( do this while all services shut down, of course, then start the APS , the WCS and then the Input/Output ones - they will register themselves with the APS and all should work as before..)

I did it and it seemed to work fine. Thanks for the help. I will mark your post as helpful/expert post.

It is strange, I just imported all of my objects from my Seagate Info 7 environment and I can run some reports and others fail with this error:

Crystal Reports: Print Engine Error.

It doesn't even give an error number so I can't get a more definitive answer on why some are erroring out. I haven't even installed Crystal Reports 9 on my machine yet and want to do that and see if I can run the report from the designer. Any help would be appreciated on what is happening. I am also hoping I have the latest hot fixes, etc with this installation.

Bessebo
