I am at a loss as to how to fix this, so I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I have one Citrix Metaframe 1.8 server. It has been in place for about 5 years now. Two years ago, I upgraded it to Windows 2000. I believe I have all the latest hotfixes installed.

I have never had any problems shadowing users up until now. About 2 weeks ago, I tried to shadow a user. I get the message: "The Citrix is not available, please try again later." I tried again, and the same thing. I finally checked the event log, and there's an informational message that says: "The terminal server cannot issue a client license." But it doesn't show up anywhere else. All my remote users are able to attach with no problems; it's just shadowing where I see this.

Has anyone seen this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like a Terminal Server License issue.

Can you shadow from any client or is your problem with only 1 PC?

Can you make your screen the same size or larger than your users and ensure that you have the highest graphic setting, preferably High Color 34 Bit.

If it's the first one, you may need to delete your MSLicensing\Store key. If it's the latter, it's graphics related.

If it's neither !?!?!?!?!?!?!

Cheers,
Carl.

Thanks, Carl.

I suspected the Terminal Services licensing as well, but wouldn't that affect all the users, and not just shadowing?

Besides, shadowing has always worked; I haven't changed anything that I know of that would have caused this.

I cannot shadow from any client.

Do you have a client that has not connected ever to TS and and do you have any spare licenses on your license server.
See if this "New box" can start an ICA session. If it can't then I suspect your License server database may be corrupt and you may have to re-license it.
Stop and start License server ?

I know its grannys and sucked eggs but do you have an ICA client installed on the shadow-er as well as the shadow-ee.
I got done that way once.

Cheers
Scott

Scott,

Thanks for your reply. I've been so busy lately, I forgot to come back and check for any more replies.

I already tried everything you suggested; I even relicensed the server. I'm just out of ideas.

Any other Citrix gurus out there?
