I'm having a problem with setting permissions for the following files when they're placed on a Server running Linux:

.htaccess
.htpassword

I don't know if it's a Linux related issue, but I never had this problem when I used a UNIX server as my Web Server?

I'm able to transfer these files successfully to the Web Server but once there, I cannot see them. Since I cannot see the files, I cannot set permissions because I'm only connected to the Server through an FTP connection and cannot CHMOD them.

Telnet is not an option for me to use, so I basically need to achieve this using FTP. I'm running "Windows 2000 Pro" and it's native FTP program to transfer the files.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You posted this in another forum, where i answered it.... but...

get a different ftp client, ws-ftp, cuteftp and a number of other gui based win32 apps can do what you want.

In addition to Window's FTP client, I used WS_FTP_PRO. I'm convinced it's a Web Server issue.

Thanks for the Knowledge Base link, but running "ls -lt" makes all files hidden.

Hi

That should be 'ls -la' or 'ls -al' (option order doesn't matter). The 'a' is what shows all files . The 't' paramter just sorts the list.

Hi,

Actually just tried it myself and the intructions are misleading. The box just needs the <parameters> to 'ls' not the whole command... so just put '-la' in the box and press enter. It works for me...

"-la" Worked Great! Thanks!!!

BTW,

The folks at Ipswitch failed to help me out with this issue because I own WS_FTP Pro 6.6 and not the current Version "7.0". It also took them 5 days to respond to my inquiry, which was only to tell me that they're not supporting V6.6. What a nice company.
