A couple of weeks ago we migrated from Exchange to Exchange 2003 using the following method:

Added a new W2K3/Exchange 2003 server to the existing Exchange environment and moved all mailboxes and Public Folders to the new machine.

Yesterday when I took the old Exchange 5.5 server offline we were not able to send external outbound email. Internal Send/Receive as well as external Receive was fine. Our PIX/NAT settings don't seem to be the issue.

All external outbound mail was being queued on the old 5.5 machine. What do I need to do to remove all reliance on the 5.5 server from our Exchange environment.

Thank you in advance for any help.

I'll be taking my 5.5 offline tomorrow eve and making the MX change etc. From what I've found so far, you must set up an IMC on the 2003 machine. Before you took 5.5 offline you had an internet mail connector to your old server. You must replace that connecter with one to your 2003 virtual server.

Please let me know how it goes.

Here's a link on how to create the IMC:
