I was previously using Windows ME, Outlook 2000 and Norton System Works 2005 and never had a problem sending or receiving emails.

I have now upgraded to Windows XP, I did this over the top of Windows ME, now I cannot send emails with attachments.

I turned off XP firewall and Norton "Scan emails when sending".

I also completly uninstalled Norton but still can not send emails with attachments. When I try I receive an error message "Server timed out"

I have also increased the server time out to maximum time, 5 minutes, but still the same problem.

Is there a registry key fix?

I would appreciate any advise.

This is a known problem with outlook 2000, have you applied the most recent service pack? and test again to see if that helps.

PQi,
I thank you for the reply.

I finally fixed the problem, the steps taken are as follows –
1)I checked the system with “Error Nuker” as that was supposed to fix the error that was coming up, it did not work.
2)I ran Windows XP compatibility checker, it said all was compatible.
3)In desperation, I reinstalled Windows XP over the top again.

After I did this I could not use the modem as it stated there were no drivers installed.
The modem I was using was a 56K generic and when I originally upgraded to Windows XP I used some Windows XP compatible drivers, now by reinstalling Windows XP, it had removed the drivers.

I then used the original modem driver disk it was suitable for Windows 95, 98, ME and 2000. When I was installing, it warned me that the drivers did not have an approval signature from Microsoft.
Anyway, I took the chance and installed them, everything is now working OK.
I again ran Windows XP compatibility checker and it said there were no incompatibilities.
