Cannot select Field list

Could someone help me figure out why I cannot select field list to add fields to my report.

I Double clicked "Create report in design view" it opens a new report but the Field list is grayed out. How do I add a field?

Ohh if i look at other reports that have been created then this field shows up. Very new to access... Thanks...

Make sure your report's Record Source property has a table, query, or SQL statement.

Thanks, that is what the problem is. I thought that I had selected that earlier...
