Cannot see transform symbol when hovering edge of object

Just recently I keep loosing the double arrow that appears when I go to transform an object from the edge? Has anyone any idea why this happens or how to fix it, It comes back on re-launch. I am on mac,cs3

...not had that experience myself, but have you gone through the usual deleting of preferences/settings folder?
