Hello i am new to mac i have been mostly using PC one of my user at work use a mac and he is able to see 2 network drive when browsing the network but cannot see the others.

If someone have an idea and could give me detail of how to fix this i would appreciate i created a new share on a Windows 2000 server and gave the user permission to access it. I just want to add the share folder on his machine.

Thanks,

Martin

Martin,

This depends a lot on how your network is organized. If you're using ActiveDirectory you can join his Mac to the domain.

However, there seems to be a long standing issue with how Windows machines deal with name resolution. We have an ongoing problem in my office where the Active Directory server loses elections to laptops brought in from home or are dialed in over the VPN. This effectively means that some days I can see every share in the network and other days I can only see whatever laptop that just took control of the network.

A work around that always works is to have the Mac user use the IP address of the machine he wants to reach instead of the name.

don't right click folders to create shares. Use Computer Management. In there create a new share and you get an Apple Mac share option. Use that to create the Apple side of the existing shares. Remember to create both PC and Mac shares for new folders.

Zel,

You don't have to treat Macs differently from Windows boxes anymore - they run the same networking protocols Linux does, with the added bonus of being able to join the domain. About the only feature I can find that's missing is that Macs don't realize that once you're in a domain you can use the domain credentials for all printers and shares - on the Mac you have to re-enter them each time.

I figured out what was the problem the Network Administrator gave the wrong account info to the user anyway they where using a different account that didnt had the permissions.

Thanks all
