IE
I have Internet Explorer 6.0 running on an XP SP2 Laptop on a Windows 2000 Server Domain.

When I go to Tools/Internet Options I can only see the General, Privacy & Connections Tabs.

This is the same for all users in the Domain, regardless of OS or IE version.

Is there a way that I can see all the tabs.

Is this something to do with Group Policy?

Thanks

That worked fine, I ran that utility and I could see all the tabs under Internet Options.

When I reapplied the Group Policy, the tabs disappeared.

How can I find out what Group Policy is enforcing this?

Thanks

Hi, you can see this in gpedit.msc

User configuration/administrative template/windows components/internet explorer/internet explorer control panel.

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue

I can see all the Group Policies, but none of those options are enabled either on the Group Policy on my Client, the Domain Controller or any other Server I check.

Is there anywhere I should be looking for this?

Hi, in that case it's system policies (xpconfig.pol)

In the registry:

HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel

You can prevent the future application of these policies by denying write access on this registry key to ALL (system, yourself, everyone) You'll always be able to take ownership if you must change something.

To prevent all policies from applying: HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\update\updatemode=0

No policies will ever be applied to your machine.

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue

I changed both of them - thanks a lot.

BTW - whats xpconfig.pol - I goggled it & cant find anything on it

the .pol files are system policies defined with the resource kit tool "poledit.exe". This was used prior to group policies. (NT4.0-style) this have the advantage to be automatically reapplied upon each login...

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue

There are numerous .pol files in C:\Winnt\SYSVOL\sysvol\Domainname\Policies on the Domain Controller.

I tried to open them with Notepad and it is impossible to read.

Is there a way of displaying all of these policies in a meaningful way?

The .pol that is used is located in \\domaincontroller\netlogon folder, for XP: xpconfig.pol and for NT: NTconfig.pol

You'll need poledit.exe with all the .adm templates to see it's content.

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue
