Hi,

I have 10 AIX 4.3.3 workstation. Now I am migrating to AIX 5.2. I have noticed a strange problem. The machine hangs everyday. I can ping but cannot remote login and palso physically the user can't login( the machine is been hanging).

Is this new thing in AIX 5L and I don't have problem with AIX 4.3.3. I leave my workstation on whole time.

Can someone help me

I've seen the happen when a duplicate I.P is on the network or if the /, /usr, /var fill up. Is it happening on all machines?

Hi,

The problem is happening on all the AIX 5L machines. I checked all the directories. Nothing is full

Regards

What RM level are the machines on? Type

oslevel -r

on the 5.2 machines and report back please.

How long after a reboot until the looking starts?
Do all servers lock at the same time?
Are all servers connected to the switch / router?
Do the servers unlock or do you have to reboot?

Can you post the output of netstat -rn

Yes the servers locks at the same time
Its is connected to switch
I do have to reboot

How often does this happen. Is it at the same time(ish) of the day?

If I were investigating this I'd be tempted to switch off one server at a time (If you can) and see if the problem is still a problem. I'd also be taking a look at the switch / router / firewall. Can you install a second switch and migrate a couple of servers over and see if the problem follows them.

are you usig the GUI or a regular terminal if GUI can you login if you clikc options the click sessions thren click failsafe........if you can do what mike said before open a terminal type smit or smitty and go to the communication services (forgot what it says exactally) then tcp/ip then further config then name resolution and make sure there is only one listing for each ip address and one ip for each name

hope this helps

just for your info i had this problem on my 5.1.0 and it was cause i had the name in there twice with two different ip's

ex

SERVER1 192.168.1.1
SERVER1 192.168.1.8

this wont work and will caust the system to hang when trying to login so do as i said above and remove the invalid IP oh and then f10 back to # prompt type exit then log in as normal

As I just posted on another thread:
"UPDATE THE FIRMWARE
there are some odd things going on from 5.2 ML3.
ML4 and ML5 and later it only gets worse!
Make sure you get the system firmware up to date before you update AIX.
pick your system from the drop down list.
if you don't know what the system is try
lsconf
