I currently have an SBS Server which is being upgraded,
I've setup up its replacement but with a diffent name. I was going to restore the information store and mailboxes only.

A few questions...

Is there a way exporting my NT accounts & Exchange accounts from the old server and importing both onto my new server. I would have linked then togther into the same domain but I'm limited by domain trusts being disabled on the MS SBS Editions.

I've tried creating a mailbox manually with the same name and tried restoring but I always get the message

Unable to attach to \\new server name\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes
Access is denied.

I've checked the FAQ's and links to Veritas site but without any luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

Exchange will only restore properly if everything is the same (not strictly true but bear with me).

Take a full backup from the live server to tape. Set the new server up EXACTLY like the old one. Same IP address, same name, same organisation, site and server name for Exchange. Ensure you are not connected to the live network!

Restore the data. Down the old server, connect the new.

Job done, no messing.
