I am running Exchange 5.5 sp2 on MS Backoffice Small Business Server v 4.5. This works fine when running Outlook 97/2000 on Windows 98/2000 machines.

However, when I try to create a user profile on one of my new Windows XP machines running Outlook XP/2002 it will not resolve the user name or login to Outlook. Instead, it just hangs forever with this screen which says Outlook is retrieving the Exchange data.

Any ideas how I can get my new machines to successfully run Outlook. Is it because my Exchange 5.5 service pack level is not good enough.

XP is compatible with SBS v 4.5 isn't it?

Any help appreciated.

I cannot think of any good reason why XP should cause this.

Can you ping the Exchange Server by name rather than by IP?

If not then you need WINS or an LMHOSTs setting

Do a netmon capture of both clients and see if XP is having problems with RPC. Dan
