I've got a network installation of an application that requires 2 of the folders to have the read only attribute removed to work correctly.

On a local PC, I can open the properties of the folders (on the share) and remove the read only check mark, click apply (I then see that windows is taking action and doing just that). However, when I open the properties page again the read only check mark is back.

I've asked the network team if they can remove the read only marks directly on the server. They did so and it is no longer showing read only when they view it directly on the server. But it is still showing read only on the local PC that's connected to the share.

Some additional info...when on the local PC and viewing the properties of the folder on the share. The read only box is checked and I can uncheck it, but it's slightly grayed out.

Does the check look like this:

or like this:

The first one indicates, its not read only. But windows choses to select it like that.

The Second is truly read only.

To test if its really read only, can you create a file in the directory?
Right Click-> New text file.

If it lets you then its not read only.

Number 1 is what it looks like when I first open the properties. 2 and 3 are the two options I have to change it to. I uncheck the box, click apply and it appears to be changing the attributes. But when I go back to properties it's back to that half grayed check box.

Also, I am able to create a folder in these folders. I'm not sure if the program is reading it differently or not.

All folders have the shaded Tick its equivalent to the green box when the XP style is on as per my example. Its not really set to read only. And if you can create a folder in them, that means writing in the folder is allowed.

Maybe the app is having a different problem.
