Cannot remove proxy because user has been deleted

A user can't remove someone from her proxy list, because the email account has been deleted.

Ex.: Eric Smith has Letha Jones listed on his proxy list. Letha has left the company, so he wants to remove her email from his proxy list.

When he tries to remove Letha Jones from his proxy list, he gets a message that it's "not a valid GroupWise user", so it can't be removed.

Any ideas? Her account has been completely deleted, but she's still in his listing.
 
For clarification, are you seeing the deleted user in the list of mailboxes the current user can proxy to or in the security section list of users who have proxy rights to the current users mailbox?

Thank you for your reply. My supervisor recreated the account temporarily and then we were able to remove the proxy successfully.

For clarification, it was the deleted user in the list of mailboxes the current user can proxy that was displaying.
