I have an XP pro machine running a Western digital 80 Gb HDD single drive. (IDE)The machine is 6 months old.
A few weeks ago my PC hung during boot on "verifying DMI pool data" I disconnected the harddrive and connected an unformated 120GB Seagate. The boot went through to read from the XP CD without any problem. There was no problem formating and copying the initial XP Pro files to the new drive, but during the first reboot during the setup the machine could not read from this disk either.
When trying to access any of these two disks from the C: prompt the machine cannot find them. I have tried to clear the ESCD and Cleared the CMOS, but so far no joy. What could be the problem..?

Is there an anti-virus feature enabled in the bios? If so, disable it.
