We have a Win.SBS 2003 R2 SP2 server with 7/8 clients.
In SBS 2003 WSUS is integrated into the Server Management console (and it seems to work fine!!!).
Attracted by the benefits of WSUS3 sp1 we made the install which disabled the integrated version. The new version seemed overkill for our small network. So we uninstalled and tried to re-activate the integrated version from the SBS disks. This didn't work. Okay, never mind lets have another go at WSUS3 sp1. Installed fine but not downloading properly. Suspecting a corrupt install or other we tried to uninstall. Could not un-install using remove programs so tried brute force un-install ie. delete directories - big mistake. Cannot now re-install.
Installer message is:
"Command line parameters not valid see log ..."
Log reads:
"2008-07-01 15:54:30 Error MWUSSetup ParseCommandLine: Failed to open SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup registry key (Error 0x80070002: The system cannot
find the file specified.)
2008-07-01 15:54:38 Error MWUSSetup DoInstall: ParseCommandLine failed (Error 0x80041453)
2008-07-01 15:54:43 Error MWUSSetup ParseCommandLine: Failed to open SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup registry key (Error 0x80070002: The system cannot
find the file specified.)"
Registry problems seem to be involved.
Can I do a restore of system state files from tape? Is there a clean remove tool for WSUS? Is it just a regedit I need? Any other ideas?
(Would love to re-instate the integrated version but .....)
Thanks. :-(
