Cannot program the Preferred Line Answer feature on Starplus STS

I have the manual and have looked the procedure up online to no avail. I have an employee that has to hit the line that is ringing before it will answer or show the caller id. I have tried to program the phone to answer automatically using the Flash 50 and 51 features on this and other phones but am having no luck.

I've never encountered this problem with the STS. Are you sure that ringing has been programmed in flash 40 for all lines and extensions you have connected? Preferred line answer is enabled by default, you should only have to program line appearances and ringing for the extensions you want to answer incomming calls from. Recheck preferred line answer to make sure you haven't disabled it by accident.
