I have been having this problem with a few end-users for quiet sometime now and I have yet to figure it out. every month and after Windows updates, a handful of users either get funky printing or weird paper size error messages. It does not matter which network printer they print to (Xerox, HP) and it only happens within Word (XP). Everything else prints fine.

I found that I would have to restart the print spooler services on the print server and on the user machine and it will usually "fix itself". However, doing this affects 1 or 2 other users. Out of about 50 users it only happens to 3/4 users.

I am not certain where to look any longer. The problem seems specific to those particular users.I have not found the problem to reside specifically within Word. I do have a login script that adds and removes the network printers. Does anyone know where I should look to find the solution to this problem? Any help would be great as this is very frustrating!

I got a call from a customer this am with similar symptoms. 1 or 2 computers only, Word only, grabled print on 1st page and 60-70 black pages follow. I didnt inquire whether they had updated recently as the 2nd tuesday was last week.
I told them to delete and reinstall the driver for the printer . This is a network printer but not using a print server.
I will be interested in others comments.

If it's a few users, check their drivere settings. They may have installed a driver, so they can change stuff to suit them. May be using a PS driver instead of PJL.
Jetdirect cards can cause these troubles also.
If using the 600,615, replace them.
If you are sure it is only in Word, Check for macros in the documents. Stop using updates.

I am pretty sure it has only affected Word. Like I said I would restart the print spooler service (& TCP Printing)on the print server and it will fix one users issue but mess up another. This printer problem has been mind boggling. Anyone else can chime in on this matter. It just does not want to go away!
