cannot open work files

have some maps that run along side Commerce Manager. For some reason, over the past week or two they have started to fail with the message "map could not complete (13) cannot open work files".

Paths are valid, system user id has rights and there is plenty of space.

Any thoughts?

Someone deployed (I don't want to point fingers but if I didn't know the guy I'd hit him) another version of the file event on another machine.
