A friend of mine has Office 2003 Pro. When he goes into his email and clicks on the word document to open it acts like it's going to open (Word even starts) but then Words gives the error that it "cannot find temporary file C:\Documents and Settings\Randy\Local Settings\Temp\ProcessDoc[1].doc". If Word is already open the file will load into word fine. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Huh? I suggest you make at least SOME sort of connection between what you put in your Subject, and what you put in your post.

Your Subject states not opening from webpage.

In your post, you do not mention web page whatsoever.

Regarding what you actually wrote in your post, thinks about this.

You are Randy, right?

You send a Word file to someone. They are NOT Randy, right?

Word is obviously set up to look for:

C:\Documents and Settings\Randy\Local
Settings\Temp\ProcessDoc[1].doc

But...they are not Randy. They do not have such a folder, or likely such a file, although who cares, as the path is wrong anyway. It is going to fail.

You asked: "Any ideas what could be causing this?"

Yes. The person trying to open it is not Randy, and does not have a file ProcessDoc.doc in a Randy folder.

The more to the point - and I am still not getting what this has to do with a web page, and perhas you may wish to actually explain that - is why Word is set up to look for that file.

The are a few things that do this. Adobe, PDFMaker, Domino Web Access software...yadda yadda yadda. All these third party, IMHO, lazy, software. They add stuff and mess with Word.

Check your machine. If you have any third party stuff, unless you actually need it...get rid of it. Or find a way to turn it off.

For example, while it is mostly fixed now in later versions, PDFMaker was VERY VERY VERY bad (or rather very good) at messing up Word. These third party addins are...addins. Except, in their utter arrogance, they assume that their software (addins) should always be available. So they put their .dot template files in Startup.

Unfortunately, they also buggered things up, in a general sense. So, I removed it from Startup, and added it dynamically only when I needed it. When finished, I fully removed it.

So. Check Tools > Templates and addins. See what is there. Also, while the default to be able to see COM addins is not on the Tools menu, it is easy to add it to the menu. See Help. Then add it to the Tools menu, and see if there is any COM addin you don't know about.

There must be something, because something added a setting to your Word document that requires ProcessDoc.Doc. You have that file - in your Randy folder, but no one else does.

I said webpage because he is using webmail. I can actually attach a word file and send it to him, and it will not open unless he saves it to disk first. The /Randy/ directory doesn't matter because it is attached to an email. If I use my computer and go into his webmail and click on the .DOC attachment it brings up word and opens the file.

Huh? Your computer? Does not your computer HAVE the Randy folder? So.....

"I can actually attach a word file and send it to him, and it will not open unless he saves it to disk first. "

Again, there is something in the file that is linking back to your computer. Once it is saved to HIS disk, that link/requirement is not longer applicable. It is, in fact, when saved, a new file. That, again, indicates to me that the original has a link to some template file used by some add-in, or COM.

Did you actually check to see if there are any?
