I have just installed a new file server which is Windows Server 2008 x64 Std to replace my exisiting 2003 File Server x86. When my users opened a file others could view it read only but since moving them to the 2008 server If a XP user has a file open a vista machine comes up saying dowloading and doesn't tell you someone else has it open, also if a XP machine accesses a mdb file no problem but as soon as a Vista machine opens it, it corrupts for the XP users. Put it back on 2003 and both are fine? HELP

Interesting, the file in question is an access file? Or any file?

any file, but we appear to have resolved it you need to update yopur Vista PC's to SP1 and XP to SP3 and this appears to resolve the problem. the only bit it doesnt fix is identifying who is in the file as it gives the previously logged in person if the file is opened in Vista
