Ok i have a logo that i cant open up in Illustrator CS2 its an .ai file and i have about 10 of them all working fine but this one. When i attempt to open the file i get this message: Cant open the illustration. Could not complete the requested operation. I have no idea what to do please somebody help

please if anybody can help id appreciate it. Thanks

...if this is the only one of ten that won't open sounds very corrupted to me , have you tried getting it re-supplied from the source provider?

...have you tried placing it in Indesign CS2?

...if that works, you might then be able to export the page as a pdf and re-import this back into illustrator...

...it is also possible the .ai file has pdf compatibility, try opening it in acrobat professional if you have it...

Damn, i had Illustrator 10 before and it worked fine on there, then i installed CS 2and it wont iopen but all the opthers will its weird. I dont have Indesign CS to open it in,a nd when i try to export it in PDF it wont let me because thers no artwork on the page its just the name i saved it under and a blank page. all of the fonts i used are saved on the computer so it cant be becaus eof that, so i dont know if the file is corrupt. I also had it saved on a Cd and tried opening it from there but it still didnt work. Thanks for replying, can anybody else help me out?

Try opening in Photoshop, just to see if it's corrupted. If you have a pro grade mac, look to see if you have the app - Graphics Converter and see if you can open with that. If it opens in these, it's not corrupted.

Also, if you happen to use mac, make sure that the file has ".AI" at the end.

Yea it opens fine in Photoshop, no i dont have Graphics Converter so ic ant check with that, and the file has .ai at the end

OK It's not corrupted. Try using the Open command on the File mneu of AI and see if it works. If not, try creating a new blank AI doc and using the Place command on the file menu and select the problem image. If this works Save immediately.

If on a mac, you can also try right clicking and selecting Open With and then AI CS2.

I'm assuming all other things are ok with AI and you're just having aproblem with this one file.

Ok that worked when i clicked on place... but now when i click witht he selection tool(black arrow) it selects the whole image with an X through it, like its all grouped together, and when i try to ungroup it i cant, so i tried to select part of the image with the direct selection tool (white arrow) it does the same, just selects the whole thing, so i cant alter it anymore. Any suggestions for that? Thanks alot by the way
