Recently, I have a notebook which was installed with Japanese version of Windows 98 that all of the applications are in Japanese version.

I have decided to migrate the Windows 98 to Windows 2000 Pro but using Windows 2000 Pro English version. I have installed multi-lingual in the Windows 2000 Pro in order to recognise the Japanese char filename document i.e DOC & XLS. When I double-click on those MS Word doc files, there's a message prompted indicating that "invalid path, cannot open ??????.doc". If I opened the MS Word application first and open the file using "FILE - OPEN" option, there has no problem.

Fyi, I can open MS Excel XLS file with Japanese char filenme by double-clicking it, but not with DOC files. I have reinstalled the MS Office 2000 (English ver) and still in vain. I can't find anything in knowledgebase on this matter, so pls help.
Thanks.

Right Click the DOC file and Rename to English, like, "test.doc". Or, sometimes, if the directory is too long, like [red]"C:\Document and Settings\Username\My Documents\ABC\Temp"[/red]..like this, it also shows the error.
After renaming and trying it, in case you still have the problem, move the file under "C:\Temp" and try.

Let me know whether it is solved or not.

Thanks Doldol, it can be opened by renaming it to English, but I want to remain the name in Japanese since the user insists of having it in Japanese. Is there any other way to do it by remaining it in Japanese?

After opening the re-named DOC, click File -> Save As...-> Name it in Japanese and save under "C:\Temp"(i think there would be no problem under My Documents or else. Just to make sure). and Try to open the newly saved one named in japanese.

Don't forget letting me know the result.

The user is not around at the moment, I will reply if I have tested it. Thanks.

FCF, at this moment, I don't know the solution. Sorry.
