Cannot open Microsoft Word 97 files!

When opening files under My Documents, the Microsoft Word Documents, a file when clicked, will flash on the screen and immediatle minize. They will not open fully on the screen. But the Excel files will open normally. I am able to open the files using Notepad.

have you tried to repair word using the installation disk, as I am sure there is a repair option, that may solve the problem.

from the command line (Run option on the start menu) type winword.exe /a

The /a switch is the repair option.
