I have an SCO openser 5.0.6 machine with a dat drive which is set up to device rStp0.

This device was working fine until I licensed the SMP patch for dual processing. Once I relinked the kernel I have not been able to access the tape drive at all.

If I try to tar off to it I get "cannot open: /dev/rStp0"

Running "tape status" comes back with "cant open /dev/rct0"

/etc/default/tape looks like this:

device = /dev/rct0
curdriver=Stp0

Because tape comes back with rct0 I have tried tar'ing to rct0 aswell and get the same cannot open message.

Has anyone got any ideas what I can do?

Thanks

My first try would be to uninstall the tape drive then install it again. Ed Fair

I have no idea of the root cause for your problem, but for what it's worth, we have a similar setup (SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 with a DAT tape defined as /dev/rStp1), but our /etc/default/tape file contains the following:

Code:
device = /dev/xct0
curdriver=Stp0
[\code] "Code what you mean,
 and mean what you code"

Panic over. The config of the tape drive was wrong, once I'd sorted this it actually highlighted a problem with the SCSI controller, hardware support is sorting it at the moment.

Cheers guys.
