I have tried, many's the time, to make Win 98SE remember the
view for Control Panel. It will not ! It is perverse!

I have Windows Explorer set to "Details".

I have all other folders on the desktop set to "Large Icons."

I have tried to make the Control Panel stay in "Large Icons",
but it ALWAYS goes to "Details" no matter what I do!

Is there some way to go into the Registry and force the
Control Panel to open in Large Icons?

DoctorBill,
Would you confirm that with Control Panel open you have clicked View on the toolbar and set icons to Large.

Yes, I have - often. When I close and then go back and open
Control Panel again, it is back to "Details"......

In Folder Options, View do you have "Remember each folder's view settings" checked? All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

Yes - "Remember each folders view settings" is checked.

It looks as though in Win98SE, it's all or nothing. i.e. if one folder is viewed as large icons, then they all are. However, I did find this:

right click on Control Panel ( in the left pane of explorer) and select Create Shortcut. It'll ask you if you want to put it on the desktop. Do so. Now open the *shortcut* and change the view there to Large Icons. This appears to act differently than explorer (which can be set independently to Details), and seems to remember this setting if you close it and restart it.
I haven't yet seen if it remembers it after rebooting.

Hope this helps.
