I was given an ftp account in a linux box. When I ftp in, I am not able to list the files when I did an "ls". But I am still able to go into the directories in the home directory like images. so even doing a cd into the images directory, I am still not able to list the files. The message is "no files found". Please tell me what are the possible reasons.
Thanks

Hi,

I would suspect that this is just be a standard file permissions issue, i.e. neither your userid nor the group you belong to have 'r' (read) access. The fact that you can cd to the directory does not imply that you have any rwx permissions on the directory or the files therein.

If you're supposed to be able to access the content of the directories you have to refer to the sysadm of the server. Or is it a hosted server that you admin yourself ?

The other possibility is that there aren't any files in those directories - just an empty directory structure. Try uploading something first and see if it works - then 'ls' the same directory.

Hope this helps

Regards

Try "dir" and see if it is a permissions problem or an
ftp acl. I had a similar problem once with proftpd and
a mismatched acl.
