Cannot install windows software

I've got a Palm Zire and whenever I try to install the software on my desktop i get an error message: "internal error 2738:costfinalizecustom", and it goes no further

My guess is that it got nothing to do with the Palm Desktop, it got more to do with your OS. Most probably you have some software conflicts...I don't know what could it be though. If you have a fast connection, you could try downloading a new copy of the Palm Desktop from Palm's website if you suspect this problem got to do with your installer.

I've already tried downloading the software, and it performed exactly the same as the copy that came with the handheld. I'm now downloading an older version to see if that works

For anyone who is interested, I have now solved this problem:

I was running 98Lite, which is windows 98 with IE removed. The palm desktop software require IE 5.0, (although I don't think the support documentation mentions this, it wasn't on the "system requirements" when I bought the Palm). After installing "regular" windows, I could install the software no problem.

So, if in doubt, don't try and and install palm software on a custom windows installation, stick with windows fresh out of the box, security holes and performance hassles and all.
