When attempting to install SQL Server 2000 Developer
Edition on a new computer running XP Professional, I get
the following error:

Error performing inpage operation
source: d:\x86\setup\lst\sharedbinaries.lst
target c:\windows\temp\sqlsetup\bin\sharedbinaries.lst

the error occurs before any of the logs Microsoft
mentions in its Knowledge Base articles have been created.
I'm doing the install from the original, full-version CD.

I have successfully installed other programs on this
machine. And have successfully installed this SQL Server on another (now deceased) machine.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Does the CD work on other machines? Is there any visible scratches on the surface of the CD that would more or less corrupt the install? What version of SQL Server are you trying to install?

Thanks

J. Kusch

Sorry ... I now see it is a SS2K version of the CD.

Thanks

You were absolutely right. Used one of those CD cleaning and repair devices. Worked like a charm. Thanks!
