Hello,

Iinstalled Redhat LINUX ES 3.0 using the standard server packaages option (I know not the best option). I find now that when I go System Settings-> Add\Remove Applications and try to anything (Editors etc.). I am prompted to Disk 1. After I insert it - it mounts then I select OK to install but it cannot find the software.

I also tried Auto-Running the CD and installing from there but still getting unpredictable results. This exact same problem happening on my 2nd identically installed RH ES 3 server.

What is the proper way to install software from the install CD's after the initial OS installation?

Thanks,

If you are installing one or only a few packages, you can use the rpm program manager. To install a package from the comand line type: rpm -ivh packagename

If you have millions of them and haven't spent months seting up config files, you amy want to install using the "Custom" option then selecting "Everything". It's a lot easier to delete or just not use the packages you don't want.

Since this is a commercial version of RH you should also be able to upgrade and install using RHN.
