When I distributed NAV 7.51 to all clients (Windows 2000) from Symantec Center, the user reported that they cannot shut down their system by clicking the Start butting. They can use Alt+Ctrl+Del and hit Shut down and that would work but clicking the Start button will not shut the system down.
I logged on with admin account and still I cannot shut down fromt he Start button. When I go to uninstall NAV, I will not uninstall. I went to Symantec site and obtain the document on deleting NAV from registry and hard drive and after that I re-install it from Symantec Center. Still I could not reinstall. I tried to re-install from CD, I still have the same issue. Anybody can help?

Hi Benjaminle -

Sounds as though maybe a Klez/bugbear actually made it through to the system. I would attempt to download the removal tool(s) from symantec's site. Run it (in safe mode) on the PC in question.

I had a situation a while back where a klez & bugbear made it through, even after being detected. I couldn't install/uninstall, change/update remove. . .nothing! PC was acting just like the one you mention.

After running the cleaning tool (PC disconnected from network/in safe mode) I still needed to re-install the NAV Client, however didn't have to mess with uninstalling previous/regedits, etc.... it simply re-installed right over the top.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

I found the resolution. I installed Windows Installer Cleanup that I obtained from MS site. With Installer Cleanup software, I was able to remove NAV completely off the systems and re-distributed the software from Symantec. Too bad Symantec does not have a better resolution than this. Thanks for the reply.
