Hi

Machine OS: windows 2000 advanced server
IE: version 6

I uninstalled IE 6 (it kept on crashing) and brought IE back to ver 5.00.3502. Then I ran ie6setup.exe to reinstall it, but kept on getting the error:

A previous installation has pending work requiring reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete that installation before running IE setup. Set up will now close.

I followed the instructions from the pages below to fix it. But I got the same error as above.

I also tried installing ie5setup.exe for IE 5.5 but got the same error as above. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I reinstalled SP3, but the same problem remained when I tried running ie6setup.exe and ie5setup.exe (for IE 5.5).

With windows 2000 server, once you uninstalled IE6, it reverted back to IE5, but add/remove programs no longer shows any IE entry in the list for you to uninstall or to repair.

The IE5 I found on the web is for 16 bit OS and windows 3.1 and windows 95. So it cannot be installed on a windows 2000 machine. Do you have one available somewhere for windows 2000?

The ie5setup.exe for IE5.5 could not load. I tried to reinstall IE5 using the windows 2000 server CD, but could not find any option to reinstall it. Do you know how to do that? Is there a way to try to repair windows 2000 server using the OS CD? Thanks.

Are u trying to run the version of IE6Setup that goes to the Internet first and then downloads components or are u running a network install version (ie the complete download)?

I am running the version that goes to the internet and downloads the components. This used to work in the past. But something went awry with the computer lately and this no longer works. I noticed a couple of months ago that when I boot up the machine and pressed F8 to go into safe mode it always hung with a blue screen and some cryptic error messages that didn't make any sense and telling me to check the system manual.

Do you have the complete IE6 version somewhere for me to download and try to install to see if it works better than the internet version? Thanks.

If you are receiving blue screens while in safe mode you may be experiencing bigger problems than just IE missing.

Regardles, you can obtain the full copy of IE6 using IE6SETUP, follow the instructions illustrated here if you are having issues;

Hope this helps
