I am new to mysql, I am trying to insert data from text file to a table. I am using mysql 3.23.53, but the command referring to 'fields-enclosed-by' while using mysqlimport errors by saying this isnt available on this version of mysql. Yet it is mentioned from the help on mysqlimport. Do i need to reinstall mysql ? do I need a different version and if so which ? I am lost!

mysqlimport -L -h localhost -u username ppassword --fields-terminated-by=| --fields-enclosed-by=\" databasename textfile.txt

Is the pipe symbol reserved for sql?
i will give it a go.. is that likely to be the reason. its just that it appears that the error suggests that field-enclosed-by command is not valid in itself in that version of mysql..
