Cannot Insert a sound file to play over a PowerPoint Presentation

Ok, here's the deal. I have to get this presentation done by Friday. I've finished the details for each slide, and now I would like to insert a wav file (that I have extracted from a CD) to play throughout the entire slideshow. In the past I have gone to insert, movies and sounds, sound from file... and worked from there. But this time, for some reason, when I go to insert, movies and sounds, this menu (movies and sounds) is all greyed out. I cannot select sound from file. So I'm helpless. Can anyone please tell me what to do. Thanks a ton.
