I can on the other hand listen to music CD's, open audio files from my hard drive, etc...

Just can't hear anything when I'm browsing say YouTube or MySpace or a flash site...anything.

How can I figure out which audio codecs are actually installed, and which I need to install. I was recently messing about installing new codecs because I couldn't get video to play in the Windows Media Player and took them out...but I didn't think I took any of the existing codecs out. If that's what the deal is.

Any help is appreciated.

This thread may offer you a few clues about the standard codec pack downloadable from Microsoft and some others if that one fails to work.
