Cannot get workstation onto network

I have recently had to reload AIX 5.3 onto a workstation. I did the reload, gave it the same IP as we are usning static IP for AIX workstations, but i cannot get it onto the network. I entered addresses for deafualt gateway, nameserver, domain name, etc. But as soon as i try and make it a NIS client, i run into problems. I tried to force it using the ypset and ypbind commands, but get a message back that it cannot reache these hosts. Even when i use the WS name i get this message.

Are there NFS service that need to be restarted? Is there a way to see what's missing to fix the problem?

Does ping <IP addr> work?
Does ping <IP name> work?

If so you *are* on the network and the problem is at a different level.

My apologies for that. I only discovered the problem when i tried to setup as a NIS client, but i saw afterwards, when i tried to ping, that the problem goes deeper that that. I cannot ping from this workstation at all.

I will try the deafualt route, as the machine is at a different plant and i can only get there later on.
