Hi guys I'm new to the group. I am an employee with an ISP and am having an issue with a customer. After performing a DNS flush (ipconfig/flushdns) and a 'netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt', the customer now has an IP of 172.16.0.100. I cannot seem to get rid of this or discover the cause. Customer has linksys router, motorola SB5101 cable modem and using Win.xp. I have attempted release/renew to see if I can get proper IP but to no avail. Before performing the above commands customer had legitimate IP of 192.168.1.101. Any suggestions on how to get them back to a 192.x.x.x IP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You could hard code his IP in his PC. I am guessing he has a DHCP server somewhere handing out 172.16.x.x IPs.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

He's got two DHCP servers. The Moto Cablemodem SB5101 is assigning the 172.16.0.x addresses. I would disable DHCP on the Moto, since it looks like the customer is happiest with 192.168.1.x. He'll blame you forever if you have him renumber into 172.16 any time he has an occaisional glitch.

You will pull your hair out if you have more than one DHCP server on the same LAN (Note wired and wireless can be connected as one LAN).

Makes sense. Thanks to both of your inputs. Much appreciated.
